Heather M. Turcotte is committed to anti-oppressive transnational feminist approaches to decolonizing academia, the interstate system and daily exchange. She received her PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz in Politics and Feminist Studies and is currently a joint-appointed assistant professor in Political Science and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Connecticut. She chairs the New England Women’s Studies Association and co-chairs the Anti-White Supremacy Taskforce in the National Women’s Studies Association. Professor Turcotte’s interdisciplinary research and teaching is located in the historical intersections of Africana and American studies, critical legal studies, feminist studies, and global politics. Her forthcoming book with the University of Georgia Press, Petro-Sexual Politics: US Legal Expansions, Geographies of Violence and the Critique of Justice, investigates how US legal rights expansions rely on the transnational criminalization of race and gender and foreclose a variety of justice possibilities. Professor Turcotte is thankful for the privilege of working with students who continually inspire and challenge her. Indebted to the people and histories of collective struggle, she embraces both the tensions and productivities of collective work as a transformative pathway towards more just worlds.
