The Occupy Oakland movement took a turn toward violence the past Tuesday night, when members of the Oakland Police Department conducted a predawn raid of the demonstrators’ camp site and shot rounds of tear gas into their midst. Marine Sergeant Scott Olsen, member of the Iraq Veterans Against the War, was critically injured during the raid and was admitted to a local hospital for treatment of a skull fracture. Apparently, Olsen was hit in the head by a tear-gas canister, wielded by the police.
