Music has been central to the very existence of the Luo people of East Africa since the dawn of time. Their songs define the meter, tone, and rhythm for religious ceremonies, consoling the dispirited, or inspiring continued toil under the African sun.
Today, Liz Ogumbo – the Kenyan-born songstress, fashionista, and model –passionately continues the Luo tradition of expressing life’s journey through music, but with jazzy undertones, nu-soul sensibilities, and reggae “riddims” riding on spoken word. According to Ogumbo, “The KenSoul experience captures me today, my roots, my love, Africa, and my passion for living.”
Her 12-track debut album, KenSoul, invites listeners to explore a contemporary African musical experience. Expressed in Luo, Swahili, English and French, her soul is Kenyan but this former African girl child has blossomed into a global soul instrument. TIA everyone – This Is Africa!
