It’s a busy weekend for the TFW Collective!
Tamura A. Lomax, Heather Laine Talley, and Monica J. Casper are at the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit this weekend. Along with UCSF’s Tracy Weitz, they’re talking about “new directions in reproductive justice.” Themes include women of color and race in the RJ movement, LGBTQ issues and the heteronormativity of the RJ framework, maternal and infant health and mortality, and abortion provision and policy.
Darnell L. Moore and Aishah Shahidah Simmons participated in the National Black Justice Coalition’s “OUT on the Hill: Black LGBT Leadership Summit,” on the panel “Shades of Masculinity.” The theme of this year’s annual event is “Marching Forward: A Tribute to Bayard Rustin.” Rustin was named a recipient of the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The D.C. contingent enjoyed a night out at Busboys and Poets.
Heidi R. Lewis, David J. Leonard, Omar Ricks, Sophia Azeb, and Theresa Runstedtler are in Chicago at the Critical Ethnic Studies Association conference. Held at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the conference theme is “Decolonizing Future Intellectual Legacies and Activist Practices.”
