New Jackie Kennedy tapes offer White House insight

Tapes recently released by Caroline Kennedy of her mother, Jacqueline, will be scrutinized and analyzed by historians for years. The tapes give insight into a world that seems obsolete in terms of motherhood and spousal roles, as Jacqueline Kennedy recalls telling her husband, “Even if there’s not room in the bomb shelter in the White House […] I just want to be with you, and I want to die with you, and the children do too” in the midst of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Caroline Kennedy told reporters that her own daughters were shocked by their grandmother’s attitudes towards gender role and expectations.
