A recent study conducted by the FDA of 880,000 women found that women taking the Yaz birth control pill are 75% more likely to experience blood clots. The findings are controversial, as health advocates say proven birth control methods are safer, cheaper andjust as readily available to women, and show discontent in the FDA approving new birth control methods without knowledge of a patient’s long-standing health complications. The drug company has been in trouble in the past, as regulators claimed the company overstated the medication’s ability to “prevent acne and premenstrual syndrome.”
